Publish your capstone on ScholarWorks!

A few years back we at GIDA started a capstone repository on Scribd. The idea was that students that are graduating, and alumni, could submit PDF versions of their capstones so that they could be made public in our repository.  This would help future students get oriented in their own capstone creation process, and it would provide for a way for students to get additional recognition for their capstone work.

Since then, UMass Boston has created an online repository for scholarly work which includes Theses, Dissertations and Capstones!  This takes a load off GIDA, and it makes your excellent work much more a part of the broader UMass Boston community!

GIDA encourages everyone who's completed a capstone (that does not contain proprietary company information) to submit their capstone to Scholarworks. You'll be helping out your fellow classmates, and you'll gain reputation in the process!:-)

The Instructional Design program has a section ScholarWorks (click here to see it) and it's really easy to publish your own work on this platform.

To submit your capstone to the repository:
  1. Go to http://scholarworks.umb.edu/ and create an account,
  2. Once you create an account and log in, on the bottom left there is a "submit research" link.
  3. Under Curriculum & Instruction, select "Instructional Design Masters Theses Collection"
  4. Read the submission instructions and agree to the terms (i.e. the work you are submitting is your own work)
  5. Then fill in all the necessary fields
    1. hint: it's good if you also select disciplines so that people can find you capstones in searches
  6. Then write a small abstract (always a good idea!)
  7. Finally, you can either upload a file (or files) or you can provide them with a URL. My capstone for example is posted on Scribd, so I gave them that link to my Scribd document instead of uploading a PDF of my capstone.

The whole process will take you less than 10 minutes, and in a couple of weeks (depending how busy the University Archives staff is) your capstone will be part of the Instructional Design Capstone collection.
